About Us
The Formation of VonCare
Dr. V established VonCare in June 2014 as a full-service mental health outpatient practice located in Orlando, FL. His primary mission was to create an organization that delivers the highest quality mental health services in the United States. Additionally, Dr. Vonetes aimed to make VonCare a name synonymous with unparalleled patient care. From the beginning, his vision has focused on building an organization where patients receive more than just treatment—they receive compassionate, individualized care.
Moreover, Dr. Vonetes sought providers who share his passion for building strong connections with their patients. These professionals are not just skilled in their respective fields but are also committed to being open, transparent, non-judgmental, and authentic. In a field where providers are often constrained by rigid rules and policies, VonCare breaks free of those barriers. At VonCare, the focus is always on what is most beneficial for the patient, not just on adhering to regulations.
VonCare’s Unique Approach to Mental Health Care
Unlike many organizations, VonCare encourages every patient to fully explore the resources available. This approach helps patients form a therapeutic alliance with their providers and create treatment goals that address their unique needs. Through collaboration, VonCare aims to meet each patient where they are and guide them toward a better future. Furthermore, Dr. Vonetes and his team are dedicated to taking the “pain” out of patient care, making the process of receiving mental health services more supportive and less daunting. With this mission, VonCare continues to provide a brighter, more compassionate path to healing.
Dr. Vonetes’ Educational Background and Training
Dr. Vonetes holds several degrees that contribute to his expertise in mental health care. He earned his Doctorate Degree and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University—Washington, D.C. Additionally, he holds a Master’s Degree in General Psychology from Virginia State University and a BA Degree from Hampden-Sydney College, where he excelled as both a football and baseball player.
Professional Training and Practicum Experiences
Dr. Vonetes began his professional journey with a one-year practicum at Indian Creek Correctional Center in Chesapeake, VA. Indian Creek is a non-voluntary substance abuse treatment community, and during his time there, Dr. Vonetes helped form and lead therapy groups. He also provided psychological testing and conducted individual therapy sessions for inmates. This experience laid the foundation for his future work in clinical psychology.
Following this, Dr. Vonetes completed a two-year practicum at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Under the supervision of Michael Lynch, Ph.D., Chief Tele-behavioral Psychologist, Dr. Vonetes spent most of his time conducting neuropsychological assessments for veterans, active-duty military members, and their families. His work at Walter Reed also extended to Fort Belvoir in Alexandria, VA, where he conducted cognitive assessments for military soldiers. These assessments were part of a study aimed at understanding how video teleconferencing (VTC) impacts cognitive testing. This work was particularly crucial in identifying TBI-related symptoms without the need for assessors to be physically present in combat zones.
Internship at Park Place Behavioral Health Care
Dr. Vonetes completed his Clinical Psychology Internship at Park Place Behavioral Health Care in Kissimmee, FL. Park Place is a community mental health center where Dr. Vonetes worked on the inpatient crisis unit for both children and adults. He administered suicide assessments and provided therapy for individuals in a juvenile detention center. Additionally, he worked in a child/adolescent group home for troubled youth and formed/led therapy groups for partial hospitalization programs (PHP). His diverse experiences at Park Place also included substance abuse therapy, where he worked with adults in rehabilitation communities.
Dr. Vonetes’ Post-Graduate Work
After completing his doctorate, Dr. Vonetes expanded his expertise by working at both a special needs school and a Montessori school. His focus was on helping students with executive system deficits, especially those involved with ADHD. Furthermore, he gained experience working with children on the Autism spectrum, as well as Bipolar children and terminally ill students. This phase of his career helped him develop a deeper understanding of working with children facing a range of emotional and developmental challenges.
Veteran Evaluations and Expanding Practice
Once Dr. Vonetes obtained his clinical license, he began working for a company that provided social security disability evaluations for the state of Florida. Shortly after, he transitioned to working with veterans, conducting Compensation and Pension (C&P) evaluations. These evaluations focus on mental health issues related to military service, and Dr. Vonetes has become highly regarded in this field. Over the years, he has expanded his practice to multiple states and has personally performed more than 11,500 veteran evaluations.
Veterans frequently commend Dr. Vonetes for his understanding and compassionate care, often stating, “He really gets where we are and he cares!” Dr. Vonetes strongly believes that providing the proper care for veterans is not just a job—it is a calling. His dedication to the well-being of veterans continues to drive him as he expands VonCare’s services to reach even more individuals in need.
